The state of Pennsylvania has several nicknames. One of them is “The Keystone State”. Do you have ancestors who once lived in Pennsylvania? Are you trying discover more information about them? If so, then here are several Pennsylvania genealogy resources for you to try.
Ancestry.com has a page with links to all of their Pennsylvania genealogy collections. In order to access the majority of these collections, you will need to have an Ancestry.com membership. Sometimes, a collection or two will be offered for free. Return to their page often. Ancestry.com does a good job of making it clear when a collection is new, has been updated, or is currently being offered for free.
GeneaLinks has a search engine at the top of its page. Put your ancestor’s first name and last name into it. Choose which type of records you want to search through: vital, birth, death, marriage, divorce, or “Genealogy”. GeneaLinks also has helpful information for genealogists who are new to Pennsylvania genealogy. Did you know that the first place to start your search for genealogical records in Pennsylvania is at the vital records office?
FamilySearch has a Wiki page about the state of Pennsylvania. There are links to more FamilySearch Wiki pages that are about each county in the state. You can also find links to more information about major repositories of Pennsylvania records. Towards the bottom of the page is a list of links to Wiki pages about individual FamilySearch collections of Pennsylvania records.
Facebook has a Community Page for FamilySearch Pennsylvania Genealogy Research. This is a good resource for genealogists who want to connect with other genealogists that are also working on Pennsylvania research right now. You can also find posts about Pennsylvania record collections that are on FamilySearch.
Internment.net has cemetery records online. Start by putting your ancestor’s first and last name into the search engine at the top of their page. Or, you can start by clicking on a link for a specific county in Pennsylvania. Most of them have links that will take you to information about records from cemeteries within that county.
Cyndi’s List is very likely the most comprehensive list of links to online genealogy resources. If it is on the internet, Cyndi’s List probably has a link to it. They have a page called “United States – Pennsylvania”. Choose a category from the list. Some categories include: “Birth, Marriage, Death”, “Census”, “Counties”, “Military”, “Newspapers”, and more!
