Perfectionists

Are you always striving toward perfection? Wondering why it never seems you can get there with your money?

The problem in dealing with absolutes is that rarely does the world work that way. You can get an A-plus in school, but not in life. For those who stress about things like attaining the perfect credit score to finding the best performing mutual fund, you simply cannot win.

Instead of worrying about being the best, accept that in the financial world doing very well is enough. Only a very small percent of people have a credit score in the high 700s…so if you are up there, you are part of the elite few. Winning the lottery or finding the best performing stock, is extremely rare. Often in your strife toward making these sorts of “perfect” decisions, you end up losing both time and sometimes your sanity in the process.

Do you have enough to make ends meet? Do you have a job you enjoy? Is there enough left over to occasionally splurge or take a nice vacation? Do you have an emergency savings and retirement accounts? If you answer “yes” to all these questions, you are doing better than most people in this world are. As a perfectionist that should make you happy.

Even if you only answered yes to a few of the above questions, you still have the beginnings of good financial stability. Nevertheless, instead of striving for any sort of perfect situation, take the time to focus on your true needs. The one with the most money or the best credit score in the end doesn’t win. Take a moment to think about your priorities and evaluate what you do have. Stop trying so hard to move ahead and be the best. Often by focusing on doing the best job you can is enough to make you happy and content.
