The free web courses that are offered through BYU’s independent study program are a great resource for church members. The classes are offered on a variety of topics and are available to complete at your own pace. The classes do not require extra textbooks, though you will need to provide your own scriptures.

Since there is no time frame on how long you should take to complete a course you can move at your own pace. There is help available if you have difficulty accessing or understanding the materials. You can call the Independent Study Center for assistance if necessary.
These classes do not offer college or high school credit upon completion. They are designed to help meet your individual needs and to add insight into topics which you are interested in. There are also Personal Enrichment courses which you can sign up for. These classes do cost a small fee and you may need to purchase a textbook to go along with the course. The Personal Enrichment courses offer a wider variety of topics including computer science, writing, sciences, and gardening.
