Meshing Who You Are with Your Personal Fitness

The biggest mistake people make in trying to build a fitness program is forgetting to take them into account. Just because your best friend loves to run doesn’t mean that’s your only option. Just because your neighbor used Tai Bo to drop twenty pounds doesn’t mean you are going to enjoy it. Just because your husband can motivate himself to hit the gym doesn’t mean that’s an option for you. The trick is to find out what fitness plans work for your personal desires, likes and dislikes.

For example, I like gyms – but I prefer to do my workouts in solitude. I don’t like big fitness classes packed with strangers and I sure don’t want to be sweating next to someone else on a machine that I’ve never seen before. Therefore I set up my own home workout gym and it’s grown over the last few years to allow me to target large and small muscle groups along with the cardiovascular workouts. I have my own stationary bike and treadmill just for that purpose. So spend some time and figure out what it is you like – and you’ll find that your personal fitness will fit you personally and successfully.

Do you prefer working out by yourself or in a group class?
