PETA’s Worst Dressed List

If nothing else, PETA is definitely outspoken about fur wearing celebrities of which they disapprove. They released their worst dressed list recently and it is topped by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

PETA released their list, saying the following about Aretha: “How ’bout some R-E-S-P-E-C-T for animals? Aretha, when you waddled into the Grammys in yet another vulgar fur, you looked as if you were going to perform ‘I Am the Walrus’ by the Beatles. You might be a queen, but you don’t know jack about compassion.”

Oh, did they use the term “waddled?” That is hitting a bit below the belt. However, it is not the first time for PETA. Earlier this month, they slammed Aretha when they sent her an open letter that said, “Music lovers may think of you as a ‘queen,’ but to animal lovers, you are a court jester . . . Why not shed the old-fashioned look that adds pounds to your frame and detracts from your beautiful voice?”

Who else has offended PETA by wearing fur? Shock rocker Marilyn Manson, actress Eva Longoria (who PETA said looked like a streetwalker of Wisteria Lane in her trashy furs), actress/singer Lindsay Lohan, model Kate Moss, and singer Kylie Minogue. Kylie was referred to as “cold-blooded” for carrying a python purse. For Lindsay, they tore into her recent film career dive by saying “’I Know Who Killed Me’ isn’t just the title of Lindsay Lohan’s latest bomb, it’s the cry of animals snuffed out so this ‘Mean Girl’ can pose with their pelts.” If you think PETA is being too harsh, you should know that they voluntarily took Britney Spears out of the running for worst dressed, saying they did not want to kick her while she was down.

Other celebrities singled out in the past by PETA for wearing fur were Cristina Ricci, Martha Stewart, and Alicia Keys. All three have said they have given up fur since being singled out by PETA, so apparently, this worst dressed list is doing some good, although I don’t picture the Queen of Soul really paying close attention.

PETA has also taken aim at the Olsen Twins, coming up with a spoof web site called Meet the Trollsen Twins.
