I got into scrapbooking because I wanted to create fancy photo albums. In fact, to this day, I am more about the pictures than I am the embellishments.
Initially, I was reluctant to make the move from filing photos in a traditional album to crafting books with journaling blocks, bullet point lists and mountains of stickers, stamps and glitter. I didn’t want the frills to detract from my photos. What’s more, I really wasn’t keen on the idea that some scrapbook layouts only featured a single image on the entire page.
Fortunately, I had a phenomenal mentor, who showed me how to design layouts to include multiple photos. Finding ways to fit as many images on a page is not as challenging as you may think, though it does take more time to plan out and execute than a layout featuring one or two photos.
One of the easiest ways to create a multiple photo layout is to crop your favorite pictures. If you typically use 4×6 prints, look at the parts of the image you can chop off. Most people include unnecessary background details in their photos. These extraneous parts can be sliced off with a paper trimmer or cut with a large square punch. Your goal should be to save the part of the print that features the main subjects of your photo. By reducing the size of your photos, you will be able to fit quite a bit more on a standard size scrapbook page.
If you don’t want to alter the size of your photos, then consider adding a bunch to a pocket page. These handy holders can accommodate more than special memorabilia. Simply tuck extra prints into a pocket or envelope on your layout. To add a little spice to the holders consider making them from origami paper or other fancy patterned paper.
