My daughter is amazingly crafty for someone whose mother has trouble sewing the buttons back on shirts. That’s why when it comes to tackling arts and crafts projects I tend to stick with ones that include as few steps as possible. For the past five months my daughter and I have been working on various photo projects for my grandmother. After she suffered a massive stroke she was moved into an assisted living facility and her room was in serious need of some personalized decorations.
I detailed some of the ways we spruced up her room in previous blogs and this post provides the instructions for another photo project we just finished up a few days ago. The photo door hanger is a wonderful gift to give family members or friends who live too far away to visit on a regular basis. What’s more, the project is simple, kid-friendly and is a great way to use up extra prints you have might have cluttering up your desk.
PHOTO DOOR HANGER
You’ll Need:
· At least two of your favorite photos
· One 8 1/2” x 11” sheet of construction paper
· A package of alphabet stickers (found at a craft store or in Wal-Mart’s craft aisle)
· Embellishment like glitter, sequins, ribbon, or stickers
· Markers
· Glue Stick
· Scissors
Directions:
Cut the construction paper almost in half to measure 5”x11”.
Cut a circle out of the top portion of the colored paper. (Circle size can vary, as long as it’s large enough to accommodate the door handle. We used the top of a Play-Doh container as a guide for the circle.)
Place your photos so they fit in an interesting pattern at the bottom portion of the construction paper. You will need to trim the photos to fit. We cut some in squares, some in triangles and others in circles just to add some variety to each door hanger.
Add embellishments, like sequins, buttons, and bows, and glue in place.
Use alphabet stickers to spell out the name of the person you are giving the door hanger to. For example, we spelled “Grandma’s Room” on ours, but you could spell out sayings such as “No Brothers Allowed” or “Nap in Progress.” You could also just print the saying with a marker.
Cut a slit at an angle from the hanger’s hole to its edge. Place on doorknob.
