Photo Inspiration

What are the greatest inspirations for your photographs? For nature lovers it may be the great outdoors, for parents it’s likely their children, and for fashionistas it’s whatever is sashaying down the runway.

While you can read photography books and watch instructional videos for hours, often the best way to find inspiration while honing your picture-taking skills is to get out there and start shooting. For example, if you are planning on taking a trip to grandma’s house this holiday season, why not take the long way and document your adventures?

Here are some cool hot spots to consider:

NEW ORLEANS

Why not find a stunning streetcar to shoot on Canal Street? Ride it to the end of the line, and then stroll around Jackson Square and along the Mississippi riverfront. The area is filled with amazing photo opportunities.

MEMPHIS

The musical city boasts a litany of photo ops, including Beale Street blues clubs, the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel and Graceland.

CHARLESTON

The South Carolina city has a ton of appeal. Charleston oozes 19th-century charm and the images that can be snapped there are incredible. Take a tour of the downtown area with your camera and document the antebellum architecture and Southern hospitality. You might even consider taking a carriage ride tour of local hotspots or heading to the area’s famous coastal towns to snap stellar landscape shots.

UTAH

Recognized as one of the most photographed places in the United States, Arches National Park is home to a litany of unique photo subjects. The park contains the world’s largest concentration of natural stone arches made from eroded sandstone. The distorted stone forms natural fins, pinnacles, spires, and arches that rise above the red, arid desert. The 73,000-acre park also boasts more than 2,000 of these “miracles of nature,” which means that you won’t have to hike far to snap shots of them.
