Photography Week in Review for April 8-13, 2008

How can you snap a prize-winning photo of your child during her soccer game? What company is the leader in the production of indestructible cameras? And where do you begin to sort a pile of pictures the size of a small child? The answers to those questions and more are included in this edition of the Photography Week in Review.

April 8thA Unique Photo Exhibit. If you have ever wanted to see shots of Bruce Springsteen taken at angles that defy gravity head to New Jersey. That’s where a unique photo exhibit featuring more than a thousand images of the Garden State is on display… but there’s a catch. Many of the photographs displayed in the exhibit have been created by online “photographers” who have never stepped foot in the state. You can find out more about this one-of-a-kind exhibit in this blog.

April 9thSorting Photos—Where to Begin. In some cases I have gone months without sorting my photos and I end up with a stack of pictures taller than my 3-year-old precariously balanced near my desk. So what do you do when your picture mountain has grown to epic heights? Find out in this blog.

April 10th—–An Indestructible Camera. My camera is more likely to be destroyed by a sticky fingered toddler than by an accidental dip in the ocean. Yet, that didn’t stop me from being intrigued by Olympus’ newest addition, which was supposedly designed for adventure shooters who sign up for National Geographic-type expeditions. The company claims its new 10.1-megapixel Stylus 1030 SW is the “toughest point-and-shoot camera in the world.” Find out if it lives up to its name in this blog.

April 11th—–Tips for Shooting Soccer Games. This blog was inspired by a reader who asked me for tips on how to capture “decent” pictures of her son during his soccer games. Find out what pointers I gave her in this blog.

April 12th—–Photo Album Revelation. You never know what you are going to find when you visit other people’s home. In this blog I tell you about the discovery I made in my friend’s home when her youngest pulled out a photo album to show off his favorite vacation pictures.

April 13th—–Dealing with the Elements. This blog was inspired by a photo challenge I faced the other day. How to take a frameworthy shot of my daughter standing near some colorful spring flowers while 20 mph winds were gusting in her face. Find out what you can do when Mother Nature hands you lemons and you are determined to snap a great shot.
