Photography Week in Review for September 3-9, 2007

Michele and I have gone “digital”. Well we went digital a long time ago, but we expressed to you all, how much more we enjoyed our film camera, than that of the current technology. However, we refocused our outlook and are providing you with dozens of articles on digital a week. Let’s see what went on in the photography blog this week:

The Three Biggest No No’s People Do With Their Photographs

There are so many things that people do with their photographs or have done with their photographs in the past, that sincerely make me cringe. Of course, it is not just me that is cringing. The people who are dedicated to archival quality of photographs are cringing too.

Experimenting With Your New Camera

Holidays are one of the most popular times to take photographs. Which is why last year I asked for a new camera in August (the month of my birthday). Doing so allowed me to experiment with my new device for at least three months before I used it to capture magical holiday moments.

Why Are My Photographs Deteriorating?

There is nothing worse than pulling a stack of photographs out of a container and seeing that the photographs are damaged or fading. Photographs are extremely fragile, and must be handled with extreme care if you want them preserved for future generations.

Tips For Taking Pictures With Your Camera Phone

I must preface this blog by stating that I am not an advocate of camera phones. Which is not to say that I don’t think the technology is phenomenal and the convenience unparalleled.

Properly Handling a Photograph

Obviously the majority of us amateur photographers do not care as much about how to properly handle a photograph. But it can make a huge difference in how long your photographs will last and how much damage is done.

Digital Photography 101: Choosing The Perfect Ultra Compact Camera

I’ve done camera reviews in previous blogs and I have to say that I don’t think you will find a photographer out there who would be willing to admit that there is a “perfect” camera on the market today.

Photo Negative Safety Tips

Keeping negatives safe for centuries to come is important. There is nothing worse than having a photograph get damaged, only to find out that the negative is also damaged and more than likely the photo is not replaceable.

Digital Photography 101: The Power of PictBridge and Card Readers

There are a ton of different digital cameras on the market right now and it seems these days there are almost as many printers. The stiff competition among brands inspired PictBridge. PictBridge is a single printing format shared by a large number of major camera and printer makers.

How to Best Organize Your Negatives

Negatives are a pretty important part of photography. If you took picture prior to your digital, you have negatives. There is not much of a way around it. However, knowing how to properly organize and store negatives is something you might be doing for a long time to come.

Digital Photography 101: The Pros and Cons of Ultracompact Cameras

What photographer (amateur or otherwise) doesn’t appreciate the convenience of being able to slide a camera into a pocket or purse? Can you image having a camera the size of a deck of cards at your disposal?

How to Best Organize Digital Images

Organizing digital images you have taken is an important process in taking digital photographs. Because digital images are different from negatives, they are stored in a computer or on a back up drive of some kind.

Tales Of A Lazy Photographer… And Tips To Break The Habit

Scan your photo albums or the frames decorating your home and you will get a general idea of your picture taking habits. For example, the other day I was sorting photos and I noticed that I have an inordinate amount of vertical shots of my 3-year-old daughter.

Digital Photography 101: Let’s Review—Photo Printing

Many people getting sucked into the digital photography vortex spend much of their time researching cameras and not nearly as much time reviewing what’s needed to get those fabulous shots out of their handheld devices and into their photo albums.

Monday Photo Challenge – Around the House or Pieces of Home

I am having so much fun with these photo challenges, and I really hope you are as well. Each Monday, I post a challenge that you can choose to do, or you can choose not to do. It is up to you.
