From the moment you see the book “Pick Me Up” chances are good that you are going to have the extreme desire to pick the book up. “Pick Me Up” is the first young adult title from DK Publishing, and is designed for readers aged 10-16 who have “everything else to do”.
The book is an information book jam packed with information, about everything you need to know as a 16 year old in the world today.
The cover of the book is done in 3-D animation with a train, globe, astronauts, a dinosaur, and tons more squished onto the cover all in action sequences that are bound to capture your attention. The inside of the book is almost as jumbled as the cover with each page covering a different topic and giving you tons of information in a fun to read and fun to look at way.
The book is divided up into eight different sections covering main subject areas, users can navigate the book that way, or better yet can link just open the book and start reading. Throughout the book different subjects are linked similar to Internet links to different pages in the book. For instance if you were reading a page of the book and umbrellas were mentioned, then the word umbrellas might be underlined with a page number beside it where you could go to learn more about umbrellas.
In most book design and content, the book is a print publication designed for the Internet age. The writing on each page is for the most past short and snappy. You get a lot of information, but it is done in a to the point entertaining way, rather than a long drawn out way with tons of fluff.
I’ve had the book sitting on my coffee table for a week or so now, and every single person who has came in my home has picked the book up and started looking at it. If you happen upon a copy I highly recommend giving it a look, you’re bound to be impressed, and more than likely sucked in, as I have been several times already.
Pick Me Up is designed for 10-16 year olds, but is tons of fun for adults well. The book is sold for around $30 and can be purchased at a bookstore near you, or online at Amazon.com.
