Picture Frames: Cool Wall Frames

Inexpensive wooden picture frames, any size, will work for these projects. You can also recycle old frames that you no longer use and make them into something special. They should be flat and should have wide edges.

Sand and Shells Picture Frame

Remove the glass and the backing from the picture frame. Apply a thick layer of paint and dip the entire face of the frame into clean sand while the paint is still wet. Shake off excess and dip again if necessary. Lay flat and make random designs on the frame using a tooth pick to “draw” them. Fill in these areas with colored sand. Press firmly into place. Once the frame is dry, glue on tiny sea shells randomly or create a pattern.

If you are going to hang the frame on the wall, add a rope hanger for nautical charm. Cut a length of thin rope and attach one end to each top corner of the frame, from the backside. If using staples, make sure they are not so large as to go all the way through the wood and show on the front of the frame.

Beaded Picture Frames

This is not your typical “glue on a few beads here and there” picture frame. This project turns out really pretty.

Remove glass and backing. Paint the front of the frame with a thick coat of craft glue. Sprinkle on bugle beads in one color, or assorted colors. You want lots, so most of the area is covered.

Wait a minute, then press down gently. Let sit for a few minutes and then gently lift the frame, allowing excess beads to fall off. If too many fall off, you need more glue. Add a few drops of glue and press the beads on. When the beads are secure sprinkle on fine glitter to fill in the open spaces. Gently shake of excess glitter and allow to dry.

To hang on the wall, attach twine to one corner of the frame, string on beads, and then attach the other corner.
