Pillow Talk

Your pillow can be damaging to your health. The wrong sort of pillow or too many pillows can cause headaches and neck aches.

Pillows are very individual. What suits one person, may well not suit another.
Over the years Mick and I have bought a number of pillows and it doesn’t seem to matter if they are cheaper pillows or more expensive, sooner or later they seem to get to that stage where they are no longer comfortable and it’s time to buy a new one.

If ever we stay at anyone’s place or go away on holiday I take my own pillow with me and so does Mick because we find it impossible to settle with another one. There is nothing worse than being in a strange bed and not being able to sleep.

Choosing a pillow is all about knowing what suits you best. Some people like a high pillow, others like them low. Some like firm and others like soft. A lot depends on whether you sleep on your back or your side and these days some pillows some come telling you that are for side sleeping or others for sleeping on your back.

The content of the pillow is also another consideration. Some are feathers or down, others are latex some are filled with some other fiber. I’ve tried the down and feathers and I find them uncomfortable and can’t sleep on them, but you may find them to your liking.

The only way to find out what suits you is to try them out. If that means lying down in a shop on a bed to get a feel for it, then what’s what you do and who cares what anybody thinks. That’s what we did when we bought our last pillows. To date they have been holding up well.

Another tip is to take your pillow out of the pillowslip every few days and just let it breathe. Better still hang it on the clothes line and let it get some fresh air. It helps prolong the life and usefulness of the pillow.
