What are the Planet Explorers? Well, if you’re planning a family trip, you’re going to want to know the answer to that question!
Planet Explorers are guidebooks for kids that work on your Kindle, Nook, or smartphone, and they are only $3.00 each. Your child can learn all about your family’s destination and be your tour guide the whole time you’re away from home.
Let’s start by taking a look at the book for New York City.
We start out with a table of contents listing all the major attractions in New York City, and there are hyperlinks to jump straight to those pages. There, you’ll find the address of the attraction, a picture of it, a link to a website with more information about it, and tons of awesome trivia and information. Did you know that the Empire State Building is 102 stories tall? And not all the information included is trivia—there are tourist tips, too, including the advice to either prepare for a long wait to ride up to the observation deck, or to pay extra to skip to the front of the line.
If you’re hungry, you’ll find recommendations for restaurants near the tourist attractions you’re currently reading about, and you’ll also find a comprehensive list toward the back of the book.
If you’d like more of an overall approach to the city, there’s a history at the front of the book that tells you how the state came to be. It discusses the purchase of Manhattan and who first governed the state. We even have a timeline of major historical events.
Not only would these travel guides make excellent resources to use while traveling, but do you know what? They would be great learning tools here at home. I’m not heading out to New York City any time soon, but you can bet that I’ll upload this book and use it as a tool in my homeschool to teach my children about the state and the city in a fun, interactive, educational way.
