Today is the day of the baby shower for my thirty three weeks pregnant sister. The preparations for this baby shower have been ongoing for the past several months. Things really were put into high gear about three weeks ago with the writing and sending of the baby shower invitations. The planning continued yesterday as I made six dozen cupcakes, got together all my supplies for the baby shower games and items needed for preparing and frosting the six dozen cupcakes, I picked up the flowers for both the door prizes and cupcake decoration, and many other miscellaneous items (like folding chairs, gifts, and a standing mixer).
My morning began early with a shower and breakfast. Then my sisters (they spent the night to help out more easily) and I organized and rechecked everything that we need to bring with us over to my pregnant sister’s mother-in-law’s house for the shower. I never thought about how much stuff is needed to throw a baby shower; my list is fairly long: folding chairs, cutting board (for prepping fruit), a serving bowl (for the fruit), all the fruit (watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple to be prepped on site, plastic punch glasses, paper dessert plates and napkins, pipping bags and tips, powdered sugar and butter, all the game supplies, ribbons and tulle for decoration, a cupcake stand, a cheese platter and dome, punch ingredients, all seventy two cupcakes, a standing mixer for making the frosting (borrowed from my mother), the pre-prepped vegetables for the vegetable platter, and finally the potted flowers.
As we are loading the car, my only concern right now is that I do not forget something important. For now I am just anticipating the work that needs to be done at my sister’s mother-in-law’s house before the shower can begin. My hope of course is that everything goes smoothly. I am mostly really excited to see my sister whom I have not seen in an entire year!
