I am in the midst of planning a baby shower for my younger sister (she’s only eighteen months younger); she is fifteen weeks further along than I am. The planning began before I was pregnant, but it was more of collecting ideas phase. As I entered my first trimester and with the onset of morning sickness, the planning halted. I tried having a few conversations with my sister about my ideas but it was just too stressful anticipating all the work it would be. Now that I am finally emerging from the cloud of morning sickness, I am ready to get things organized for the baby shower.
Originally, I thought I would plan an intimate shower with just close family and friends at my house. As it turns out there are a lot of people that ought to be invited that I didn’t think of and since my sister lives ten hours away from “home” only one big shower is possible. Having a larger shower necessitates a larger space and my sister’s mother-in-law graciously offered her house for the baby shower. Once I had a location and date worked out, now the finer details need to be worked out.
First of course are the invitations, which I originally thought I would just order on-line, but that is out of my price range and with fifty guests, I needed to find an alternate invitation source. Once I found some cute invitations, I have to gather addresses as most of the guests are people I don’t know.
Next comes the question of the baby shower theme and decorations. I like things simple and purpose driven (I’m not a fan of ridiculously useless decorations; the decorations must have a double purpose). My sister has chosen a floral theme for the baby’s room (a girl of course) so I am going to run with that theme and incorporate simple floral elements into the door prizes, games, food, etc.
