Planning for Holiday Fun

The day after Thanksgiving is a great day to do a little planning for December. I don’t like to fight the crowds, today. I like to stay home with a piece a pie, a fire, a pen and a calendar.

Our paper has a listing of upcoming local events. I penciled in parades, the special lights at the zoo nights, and the dates of a local production of the Christmas Carol. I wrote in dates of Christmas parties that I knew about. The kids and I figured out a good day to put up the tree and to decorate the house.

Then my teenager and I spent some time with the TV listings and our Netflix account. This time of year, there are so many holiday specials on TV that we have to do a little planning so that we don’t miss our favorites.

For our absolute favorite movies, we put them in the queue for Netflix. We are a bit spoiled when it comes to movie watching and we don’t like all the commercials on regular TV. If it’s something we’ve seen a lot we are always disappointed when they chop bits of the program out. For other specials that we like, or ones that we haven’t seen before, my son programmed our DVR (similar to TIVO) to record the shows for us.

My twins and I got out my craft books and clippings. They are anxious to start on their homemade Christmas gifts. We started to make a list for the craft store, too. On the Fun blog I’ll be sharing lots of simple Christmas gifts that children can make, and some simple ornaments, too.

For Christmas we make cookie baskets for neighbors and friends. I won’t be doing any cooking today, but it’s a fun day to look at holiday recipes and magazines and dream and plan.

Happy day after Thanksgiving!
