Planning for Savings

I swear, some people think I am psychic. I always know just what coupon inserts will be in the paper, and what coupons will be there.

Actually, there is really no trick to it. Smart Source, Red Plum, and Proctor and Gamble publish the annual schedule for inserts on their websites, and you’ll find it repeated on many deals related forums, blogs, and resources.

People who have access to inserts before Sunday because they are involved in marketing or selling newspapers usually post their finds on deal forums, or notify their trading partners. So it’s not magic, it’s not psychic, you just need your ear to the ground – and good sources.

The schedule for the rest of the 2009 newspaper coupon inserts is listed here in our forums. It’s subject to change, but that will give you an idea of what weeks you will want to stock up on extra papers or ask non couponing friends to save them for you.

As for finding out what is in the inserts, previews often vary according to what region is being reported. You might see a list on a website, and find that certain coupons aren’t included, or that you have something that is not listed. No one can predict all the variations or where they will occur. Previews can give you a general idea of how to plan for getting extras if you want, or request certain coupons from trading partners.

New to trading coupons? Check out this area of our deals forum to get set up with a coupon train and meet other traders.

Here is a good list of previews, and past lists – it’s helpful to see what is out there and when it was published for your trading lists. These lists are also in downloadable PDF form for your convenience.

You can also trade printable coupons, within reasonable limits. Remember, printables are often limited to two per printer to keep someone from printing hundreds of them. Printable coupons should never be duplicated or sold.

Trading also opens you up to receiving manufacturers coupons that are on tearpad displays outside your area. You really appreciate this if you need baby or pet food coupons, and are in an area where you don’t see a lot of promotions. Traders who don’t have babies or pets are often a real boost to your savings. Even with the increasing cost of postage, trades really increase your inventory of good quality coupons for items you need. And it’s even better if you can trade with local couponers too!
