Planning on Cloth Diapering?

When I was pregnant, my mom threw me a baby shower and everyone who attended could enter for a door prize if they brought a package of diapers. I ended up with so many diapers that I did not have to buy any until my son was 4 months old! It was so nice to start out with so many diapers and not have to worry about that expense for a while. Fast forward almost two years later and we have now switched to using cloth diapers. After watching me convert, my sister has decided that she would like to use cloth when she starts her family. The big question, however, is how do you host a diaper drive at your shower if you’re not planning on using disposables?

One obvious answer is to ask for gift cards to your favorite diaper store. With a stack of gift cards in hand, you’ll be able to shop for your cloth diaper supply on your own. This will allow you to buy the sizes and the colors that you need.

Another option is to register for cloth diapers. If you are lucky enough to have a cloth diaper store in your area that does registries, you’re all set. If you are not, you might consider creating a generic registry online and listing the specific brands, sizes and colors of cloth diapers that you need. This could get tricky if your guests don’t know where to buy cloth diapers or they don’t understand what they are looking for.

If you are not loyal to a specific brand, you might consider asking for something more general, such as “one size pocket diapers.” You might end up with a few FuzziBunz and a few Happy Heinys, but if you don’t care what brand or color they are, this might be the route to go.

Some cloth diaper companies offer starter kits that are almost like a gift basket. You could direct inquiring shower attendees towards one of these if you are not sure which brand or type of cloth diaper that you want.
