Can I just say how brilliant it was for my husband and I to plant tomatoes this year? I simply did not see the big picture in the beginning. I thought it was boring waiting for our tomato plants to grow. I kept going outside to water and would think it was a waste of time.
We waited what felt like months for the small plants to grow big enough to be transferred from the small little pot to the ground. My attitude completely changed when the tomatoes started to grow.
When the tomatoes ripened I was ecstatic. It has been about a month since then and we still have tomatoes growing.
Reasons to Have Tomatoes
There are a couple things I really like about having my tomato garden.
One thing is that it saves on money. I don’t have to add tomatoes to my shopping list.
I also like how having tomatoes in the backyard provides convenience. Whenever I want to make something with tomatoes, I don’t have to stress if I haven’t picked up any lately from the store- I can just check the backyard!
Lastly I like having tomatoes because it gives me an excuse to try new recipes. You can use tomatoes in pasta dishes, homemade salsa, bruschetta, or throw in a summer salad, there are so many options.
Growing Tomatoes
Two ways to start growing tomatoes that worked for me was through a starter kit or directly from seeds. Different places have starter kits such as Walmart. The starter kits are a good option especially if you are a beginner like me. Seeds you can purchase from any home improvement store or gardening center.
I suggest planting your seeds in a tiny pot, keeping it in the house or back porch, watering often. As your plant grows and becomes bigger, transplant it to your yard. A large dirt area that has several hours of sunlight is the best. Water often, daily during heat waves, and wait patiently for your tomatoes grow!
