If you found my blog about PBS Kids Sprout mini-shows informative, then this one will be just as interesting for you to read. Playhouse Disney also has quite a few mini-shows that they present in between their regular programming. They have had some regular ones for a while and recently they have added a few more. My daughter loves all of them, so I figured it would be nice to share them with my readers.
Go, Baby!
This is about a little baby boy and his discoveries of the world around him. For a while, they just showed the same three episodes, but recently they added another character — baby Sophie. This helped create a few new episodes — but very few. This was the first mini-show that my daughter ever responded to and she still loves it.
Johnny and the Sprites
This show stars the handsome John Tartaglia (“Sesame Street”) as a guy who moves into the woods to be alone to work on his music. He discovers that he has a couple of woodsy friends who are sprites — Basil and Ginger. While working on his music, he also helps Basil and Ginger solve problems. Despite Johnny’s nosy neighbor Ms. Moldystew, he, Ginger, and Basil can usually work through anything rather well.
Captain Carlos
Carlos is a little boy who is looking for a snack. His little sister Maria tries to convince him to eat junk food, but Carlos always picks the healthy choice. A great mini-show to teach kids about healthy eating.
Shanna’s Show
Shanna is a little girl who loves to dress up like different people. She gives three clues and the audience has to guess who she is. She has dressed up like a ballerina, a construction worker, a teacher, and many more! With the help of her animal friends and her younger brother Shane, Shanna has loads of fun in store.
Shane’s Kindergarten Countdown
Shane is Shanna’s younger brother. His show is all about how to be polite in school. With Shanna’s help and the help of her animal friends, Shane teaches many important lessons on how to behave properly.
Dan Zanes House Party
Dan Zanes is that lovable, funky-haired children’s musician who has been making music for children for a long time. He has graced Playhouse Disney with some of his music videos, which are shown occasionally in few-minute segments. Not so much a mini-show as a music break.
Choo-Choo Soul
“All aboard the choo-choo train!” This show is a short musical adventure based on a train that runs around a zoo. The songs are pretty much R&B style and are all about counting, animals, and how to be polite. This is not one of my favorites, but my daughter likes it.
Lou and Lou: Safety Patrol
This is a show about a boy Lou and his sister Lou (“That’s Louise!”) who teach all about safety. They look for violations and tell how to correct them. They provide tips for safety when crossing the street, safety at the beach, and how to have fun without being dangerous. A cute one for the kindergartner.
Ooh, Aah & You
Ooh and Aah are two monkeys — one red, one blue — who like to have fun with you! They teach children about opposites, exercise, and all sorts of fun things. I don’t really like this one a whole lot and my daughter is not too interested in it either.
I do not know the exact schedule of the mini-shows because it varies. Sometimes they change on the weekends and sometimes they will show one mini-show in place of another.
In the meantime, keep on the lookout for these fun minis in between your favorite Playhouse Disney shows!
