When you ride your bike somewhere and leave it unattended you put a bike lock on it, right? So what do you do when you leave your iPod unattended? Nothing? How about putting an iPod lock on it?
The Pod Safe is essentially a bike lock designed for your iPod video, iPod Nano, or 4th generation iPod. The Pod Safe is a casing that holds your iPod with a combination lock at the top. You can still connect your iPod to the dock while the lock is on, but if you attach your iPod to your desk it can not be removed until you put in the combination.
When I was in college I lost several portable CD players to classmates who had sticky fingers and walked away with my unattended players. Back then it was a $30 loss and a trip to Wal-Mart to buy another. iPods are much more expensive however, and if someone was to get sticky fingers and walk away with my $300 iPod it would be quite a while before I could afford to head out and buy another one.
When I first read about these I thought it was a pretty crazy idea. Who serious needs to use a combination lock to secure their iPod? I lock my bike when I leave it outside however, and my bicycle is worth a lot less than my iPod, so it does make sense. Buying a Pod Safe does to some extent bank on the dishonesty of those around you, but so does a bike lock when you really think about it.
Apparently a lot of people have thought the lock is a good idea, the site is sold out of the safes for the iPod Nano. A Pod Safe will cost you around $40, and is available from the Pod Safe website.
