Recently I had to break down and buy something to scoop up Murph’s poop with. Normally I use grocery sacks for poop sacks, but because of our impending move I haven’t been shopping at the grocery store much.
The following list covers more of the portable variety of pooper scoopers. (The kind you’d carry along with you on a walk, as opposed to scoopers you might keep for yard “doo”ty.)
Frugal End
• Free: Plastic sacks from the grocery store. These are my preferred sack of choice because they are free. They’re not always ideal, as sometimes they have holes you have to watch for, but they work just fine.
• Van Ness Grab Bags: I actually found these at Walmart. I went this route for replacement poop sacks because they were like $2.50 for 40 and I needed them right away.
• Pooch Pick Up Bags: I found them at Care-A-Lot Pet Supply, $2.25 for 35; $4.99 for 100. (They give discounts if you buy in bulk, down to $1.71 per 35 is you buy a case of 12, and $3.95 per 100 if you buy a case of 12.)
• Bags on Board: These little canisters clip on to retractable leads. If you don’t have one, the canister costs about $5 but comes with 30 bags. Refills run about $4.70 for 60 bags. They also have bone shaped and fire hydrant canisters that cost about $6 each.
• Dogipot Litter Bags: $8.95 for 200 sounds like a good deal, but that they’re environmentally friendly lights my fire even more.
Fancier
• Mutt Mitts: These are still just plastic bags, but I’m classifying them as fancy because price per bag they’re more expensive than some of the other options above. $7.95 for 30; $12.99 for 100. (These are the ones the parks near us stock for dog walkers.)
• Dispoz-a-Scoop: These come with an attached cardboard “scoop,” but at $9.99 for only 24 I can do better with something cheaper.
• Euro Bone Pick Up Kit: Like the Bags on Board under frugal, these clip to the leash. But they’re a bit more stylish. And expensive. $12.99 for the “kit” which does include 10 bags. Refill bags run $5 for 30.
