I’ve said it before and I will say it again—-I am continually shocked by how much people are willing to shell out for pop culture memorabilia.
Yet another auction record was broken last week when a cyborg skeleton from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” brought in nearly $500,000 during a sale of Hollywood memorabilia.
According to auction officials, the T-800 Endoskeleton used in the 1991 film brought in $488,750. Meanwhile, a full-scale tyrannosaurus rex head from “Jurassic Park” was the second priciest item of the day, raking in a cool $126,500.
Other “Terminator” props brought in five and six digit figures including an armored drone, which went for $109,250, and a full-body Terminator model that went for $74,750. Both items were from “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.”
Compare that to Julie Andrews’ signature gabardine coat from the 1964 hit film “Mary Poppins,” which brought in a comparatively modest $63,250 at auction.
Cyborg skeleton or gabardine coat… hmmm.
BONO MARRIES
Not U2’s Bono. Mary Bono, the wife of the late singer-turned-politician Sonny Bono. You’ll recall she replaced him in Congress after his death. Well, she won’t have to worry about being confused with the Irish rocker anymore since she just married U.S. Representative Connie Mack.
According to news reports, the couple was married Saturday in a private ceremony attended by 35 family members in Asheville, North Carolina.
Forty-year-old Mack is a Republican representative from Florida and is the great-grandson of Hall of Fame baseball manager Connie Mack. He and Bono, who is a Republican representative from California, have been dating for two years.
According to Bono’s chief of staff, Mack proposed to his 45-year-old ladylove in late August during a romantic camping trip in Arches National Park in Utah. The wedding reportedly took place in North Carolina because that is where Bono’s sister lives.
