Pop Culture Potpourri: Courtney Love’s Diet Secrets, Jacko’s House Hunting Adventures and More

COURTNEY LOVE’S DIET SECRETS

It’s no secret that singer Courtney Love is a mere shadow of her former self, but how did she shed all the weight? Unlike most stars who say their dramatic weight loss was a result of a good trainer and a macrobiotic diet, Love is saying just the opposite.

In a refreshing response to questions by PEOPLE magazine the 43-year-old singer says she lost weight by taking meal replacement shakes and putting a lock on her refrigerator—but not a macrobiotic diet.

“I gained 40 to 50 pounds on macrobiotic food,” Love told the magazine.

She says at first she didn’t realize her weight gain was a result of her diet. After all, Love reveals she had just hired Gwyneth Paltrow’s macrobiotic chef.

“I thought, it can’t make me fat – he’s Gwyneth’s cook! [But] I saw those pictures and thought ‘Oh my God!’ 182 lbs. does not look good on me. Nothing fit.”

Love’s solution? “I put the non-Photoshopped pictures on my fridge and had a lock fixed on it. My daughter Frances has her carbs in one drawer. I don’t know where it is. I drink shakes and exercise my [butt] off. Isopure, no carbs – two shakes and one meal: fish. Fish and broccoli really does work!”

Within a few months Love says she dropped the unwanted pounds and got tabloids stirring that she was suffering from an eating disorder. Not that the rumors bothered her. Love admits she lost a ton of weight and now none of her clothes fit.

“All my [size] sixes and eights are on eBay. Most of the money is going to the Chrysalis Foundation for battered women in L.A. The other is Fair, which is fairness and accuracy in reporting which is a media watchdog group. They’re both fabulous.”

JACKO’S HOUSE HUNTING ADVENTURES

Much to the chagrin of residents along Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Michael Jackson has been hunting for real estate near their palatial mansions. According to news reports, the King of Pop is searching for a vacation home on the rural peninsula.

The Washington Post reports that Jackson has not purchased property yet, but is not limiting his search to the Chesapeake region. Jacko has reportedly “gone up the coast” in his hunt for a vacation place.

According to the paper, Jackson’s publicist said his client has “always admired the properties on the East Coast because they have a lot of land. Neverland has 3,000 acres – he likes privacy. You can’t find as many properties like that on the West Coast.”

VEGGIE RESTAURANT’S FAMOUS OWNER

People in Ohio have another reason to go vegetarian. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chrissie Hynde is reportedly opening a vegetarian restaurant in her hometown of Akron late this summer.

According to news reports, the lead singer of the Pretenders has decided to name the restaurant VegeTerranean. It will feature a blend of Mediterranean and vegetarian cuisine.

As a special treat (and a great way to entice customers) Hynde will be singing during a free concert at the grand opening of the restaurant on September 15th.
