Pop Culture Potpourri—-Madonna the Director and NFL Makes TV History

She’s a singer, a clothing designer, an actress, a mother, and now Madonna is adding a new line to her growing resume—-movie director.

The 49-year-old multi-tasker will make her directorial debut at the annual Berlin film festival in February. Madonna’s debut film “Filth and Wisdom” stars Eugene Hutz, Richard E. Grant and Stephen Graham. Berlin film festivals officials say the movie will screen in the Panorama section, outside the main competition.

No word yet on whether the Material Girl will travel to Berlin to present the movie.

NFL MAKES TV HISTORY

It’s official… and football fans are ecstatic.

After weeks of insisting they wouldn’t do it, NFL officials announced they will allow all Americans to view the New England Patriots take a shot at football history Saturday night.

The evening game between New England and the New York Giants was originally set to air exclusively on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation’s homes with TVs. Now it will be simulcast on both CBS and NBC.

That’s huge news considering the battle between the two teams will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of an NFL game since the inaugural Super Bowl in 1967, when CBS and NBC televised the meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League.

If all goes well for the Patriots they could become the first NFL team to go undefeated (16-0) in the regular season. And if you live in Boston, New York or New Hampshire you will be able to watch history in the making on four channels because local TV affiliates in those areas were already set to simulcast the game under NFL policy. In addition, those viewers getting the NFL Network will also be able to watch the teams duke it out on that station as well.

By the way, NBC was scheduled to air “Dateline NBC” and a repeat of “Law & Order: SVU” during the time slot. CBS was set to broadcast the movie “Good Night, and Good Luck” and “48 Hours: Mysteries so if you were looking forward to watching those shows you are now out of luck.
