Pop Culture Potpourri: “Sex and the City” Turns Back the Clock and Croc Hunter’s Mini Me

Have you ever wondered what Carrie Bradshaw was like as a teen? (And I’m not talking about Sarah Jessica Parker’s stint on TV’s Square Pegs.) Sex and the City is going back in time thanks to creator Candace Bushnell. The author recently announced that she is writing a series of literary prequels featuring her most famous character, Carrie Bradshaw.

The pair of teen novels will reportedly focus on the high school adventures of Bradshaw, (who was portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker on the big and small screen) and be named The Carrie Diaries. Bushnell says that she is concentrating on typical teenage issues including how a young Bradshaw deals with fashion issues, friendships, dating and how Carrie realized her dream of becoming a writer.

The first Carrie Diaries book is expected to hit stores in 2010.

CROC HUNTER’S MINI ME

Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin, who died tragically in 2006 after he was fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary at the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia, has inspired yet another one of his children to follow in his footsteps.

With 10-year-old daughter Bindi already starring in her own wildlife program on the Discovery Kids channel apparently it was time for Irwin’s son to get in on the action too. According to reports, 4-year-old Bob Irwin is getting his own wildlife TV series.

Shooting on the new show began last week and video of some of the action has already been leaked to various Australian news stations. One clip shows young Bob Irwin wrestling a baby crocodile while another clip shows Steve Irwin’s mini me cuddling a slithering snake.

Despite having their own TV shows, Irwin’s widow Terri, insists her kids lead normal childhoods, adding of Bob: “He’s a little Steve clone.”
