GRANDPA TRUMP
Her family calls her the best Mother’s Day present ever. (Never mind that she came two weeks ahead of time.) Kai Madison Trump is getting the royal treat by her parents and her famous grandfather—-Donald Trump.
The first member of the newest generation of Trump’s arrived Saturday afternoon in New York City. According to news reports, Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. and wife Vanessa became proud first time parents to the 6-lb. 14-oz. girl less than 12 hours before dawn broke on Mother’s Day 2007.
In regards to their daughter’s unique name (I thought they chose it because they love Hawaii—“Kai” in Hawaiian means “salt water”), according to Trump: “Vanessa’s [maternal] grandfather is Danish. He’s a Danish musician and we wanted to keep it as a family name.”
As for how Donald Sr. is taking to his new name, Donald Jr. says he wasn’t too thrilled with his new title, but loves the newest member of the Trump family. The Donald should be used to having babies around, after all, his son Barron with wife Melania is only a year old.
BROOKE FIGHTS FOR NEW MOMS
Brooke Shields made quite an impression on lawmakers during her trip to Washington last week. Her visit capped off her long and public journey with postpartum depression. Now, she is using her personal story to help other women who may be suffering with the condition.
Shields tried to encourage some of the nation’s most powerful lawmakers to pass legislation to help new mothers.
“I believe it’s time for Congress to step in and actually save lives and save potential tragedy,” she said.
Shields told legislators that she experienced acute postpartum depression after the birth of her first daughter, and it was devastating to her family. It also made national headlines last year when she acknowledged taking antidepressants to treat her condition and was publicly criticized by actor Tom Cruise for doing so.
Shields added that the bill being considered by Congress would be “an easy gift to give to women everywhere.”
