In less than 48 hours the Christmas gifts will be opened and the mountains of wrapping paper will be disposed of… then what? Most kids are out of school until the first week of January, so why not beat the cabin fever blues by taking advantage of the travel deals being offered by family-friendly resorts around the country.
Resorts are ramping up for post-Christmas family getaways and whether you live on the East Coast of the United States, the West Coast or somewhere in between there are numerous themed packages and special offers to help keep the holiday spirit alive well into 2008.
Take a look at the deals being offered on the East Coast:
PENNSYLVANIA
Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania is offering a handful of holiday-themed packages through the month of December. You can experience “Christmas in Chocolate Town,” a holiday dinner and musical performances at the Hershey Lodge, admission to Hersheypark and access to its 30 themed amusement-park rides, plus hotel accommodations for $345 per night. The price includes a free breakfast buffet and admission to “Hershey’s Sweet Lights Show.”
In Hawley, Pennsylvania, Woodloch Pines is offering two-night holiday weekend packages, including six meals and all activities starting at $395 per night through the end of December. This family-friendly resort is known for pouring on the holiday fun with horse-drawn sleigh rides, snow tubing, ice skating, yule log hunts, and a festival of lights show.
VIRGINIA
In Hot Springs, Virginia the historic and luxurious Homestead resort is offering a travel package for the entire family. The deal includes lodging and daily breakfast and dinner amidst the resort’s festively decorated property, which is decked out in tens of thousands of holiday lights and a 30-foot Douglas Fir in the Great Hall. The package also includes admission to the resort’s award-winning kids’ club, which offers a variety of activities, including science workshops, crafts, storytime, ice skating, sledding, and free nightly movies. Rates begin at $565 per night.
During the months of December and January the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia transforms its giant rustic-themed hotel and indoor waterpark into “Snowland.” Snow falls in the lobby three times a day, even though the temperature inside the adjacent waterpark remains downright balmy. Kids have storytime with Rowdy the Reindeer then head to the “North Pole University” to earn mittens filled with arcade tokens. Rates start at $199 per night for Sunday to Thursday stays.
