Post Holiday Deep Clean

Christmas has come and gone, and by now your guests have left their mark on your home. If they’re still around, then you might want to postpone reading the rest of this blog. However, if you are finally guest-free then read on as I have a number of great tips to get your home back to its squeaky clean goodness in no time:

Start with the refrigerator. Post holiday cleaning begs for heavy-duty decluttering, especially if your frig was used as a dumping ground in the last few days. First, throw out all old food. Next, dip a sponge in soapy water and wipe up any spills you see on refrigerator shelves or in drawers; after that wipe the interior walls of the refrigerator with a multi-purpose cleaner. If you see gunk in the corners, use a toothbrush to remove it. Next, pull out your refrigerator a few feet and check the condenser coil. Use your vacuum’s attachment hose to suck up built-up dust. Finally, vacuum the area normally hidden by the refrigerator.

Next up: floors. Deep-clean carpets by shampooing with a steam cleaner, though if you have wool carpets or delicate rugs, you might be better off contacting a professional to clean them for you. If you have wood floors remove the furniture from the room, and then apply a wood cleaner. Finish with a polish to add a protective buffer which should extend the life of your flooring. Last but not least, laminate. Use a commercial cleaner to mop laminate floors and then finish by waxing.

Don’t forget to tackle the bedroom and bathrooms after guests leave. Bathroom floors can be mopped and toilets scrubbed. Also, in the bedroom, be sure to wash your bed sheets and duvet. Finally, use your vacuum cleaner attachment tools to remove dust from your bed’s headboard and baseboard.
