Postponing Maternity Clothes Shopping

I am not the biggest fan of shopping. Sometimes I like to go shopping just to look and maybe try something on to see if it fits (although I am usually disappointed by how clothes don’t fit the way I would like). I like these “window shopping” trips to be fast, less than an hour, certainly no more than two hours. A few times a year I do go shopping with the intent to buy but only if I am in need of particular articles of clothing (jeans, shoes, tops, etc.). These shopping trips with the intent to buy usually take place during the summer and around Christmas time and they are very much directed at the specific thing I need (which means no “window shopping” … it’s too exhausting).

However this summer is very different, I am pregnant. Not only am I pregnant but I am also in the awkward stage where my pre-pregnancy clothes are getting just a little tight but maternity clothes are way too big. As much as I would like to buy a few articles of maternity clothing, it seems a bit premature as I don’t know what exactly I will need or be comfortable wearing. Additionally, my prime need for maternity clothes will be in the fall and winter and summer maternity clothes are in full bloom at the local maternity boutiques. Needless to say right now is not the time to expand my maternity clothes collection.

So when family members ask if I need any clothes, my answer is yes … but now right now. I have a few items in mind that I would like to pursue once I am around six or seven months along and of course when the weather starts to turn cooler and eventually freeze. I even tried on a pair of jeans and liked them but I am not willing to purchase them now when I don’t know how my body is going to change in the next two months. For now I am postponing shopping and just enjoying the last few weeks that my pre-pregnancy clothes fit without a belly band (note to self: invest in longer pre-pregnancy tops that stretch!).
