I am sure that all the neighbors heard him yell that he needed to pee but I was happy that he was telling me without hesitation and in plenty of time to get to the bathroom. Up until this particular moment, he had only used his little potty to go to the bathroom. This was a tiny turning point; instead of using his training potty he had to use the big potty at grandma and grandpa’s. He used the big potty with relative ease. Then I realized that I did not have any chocolate rewards for him, but grandma had some semi-sweet chocolate chips. He was pleased with his little paper cup with a small handful of chocolate chips in it. In the course of our visit at grandma and grandpa’s house, our son used the potty three times and one of those times was a big poop! Our first diaperless outing was a success!
The following day we ventured to the grocery store. I was pleased with his accident free first outing, but I still had some reservations. I did not want him to pee his pants in his carseat and I was still petrified that he might pee in the middle of the grocery store. Before we left the house for our grocery excursion, I had our son try to go pee in the potty even though he told me he did not need to go (apparently he did need to go because he did pee!). I was pretty confident that he would not have an accident in the car because he did pee before we left. The next test was to make sure we could get to the bathroom at the grocery store in time. I did not want to be too pushy, but I did ask him if he need to pee when we went past the restrooms in the grocery store. He said he did so I took him out of the stroller (I was wearing his baby sister in a carrier) and we went into the bathroom and he peed making our first diaperless grocery shopping trip accident free!
