Travel experts call this time of year “off-peak.” It’s the period of time between the busy summer travel season and the start of the even busier holiday season. Typically, the weeks leading up to the late November crush is when airlines and hotels pull out all the stops to lure travelers to certain destinations. One of those places is the Pacific Northwest where there are deals galore for those of you who don’t mind dodging raindrops from time to time.
SAN JUAN ISLANDS
The picturesque San Juan Islands are located about 80 miles northwest of Seattle, Washington. If you have never been and you pride yourself on being frugal then now is the time to visit. For a limited time (November 2007 through March 2008) the Rosario Resort on Orcas Island is offering a Spa Getaway package. It includes accommodations in a Bayside King room overlooking Cascade Bay and two massages (one per person). You’ll also receive a 30% discount on any additional spa treatments and a 30% discount at the hotel’s restaurant. Rates are $259 per room, based on double occupancy, for the first night and then the rates drops to $99 per room for a second night (a savings of more than 60 percent).
OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK
The park is located about three hours from Seattle and this particular deal is being offered by the Kalaloch Lodge, which is located atop a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s billed as one of the most ideal locations for watching dramatic winter storms roll from sea to shore. Hence the package’s name: The Storm Catcher Deal. The travel package includes accommodations in a standard room, complimentary mugs, a package of Starbucks coffee, two rain ponchos, and breakfast. Rates start at $149 per room per night, based on double occupancy. For an extra $20 you have the option of upgrading to a suite in the Main Lodge or to one of 44 log cabins. Rooms sleep up to four people and cabins and suites sleep up to six people.
SEATTLE
Air Alaska is offering round-trip transportation and a two-night stay at Inn at the Market (a 70-room hotel located next to world famous Pike Place Market) for $482 per person. Plus, if you book by October 31st, you’ll also receive a $100 gift card good for purchases at Pacific Place mall. The deal is good through December 15, 2007.
