It’s pretty much guaranteed that I will wake up at some point in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. At first I regularly awoke at five o’clock in the morning. As the baby grows my nightly bathroom break has moved more regularly to three o’clock in morning. Largely this regular occurrence rarely disrupts my sleep too much. Last night, however, after my early morning bladder relief I could not get back to sleep. I was experiencing a slight case of insomnia. I tried and I tried to doze back off to sleep for two hours. Finally, at five o’clock in the morning, in the anticipation of a busy day, I stopped trying try sleep, got out of bed, got dressed, and went downstairs to begin my day.
This was a special day for many reasons. First it was my husband’s birthday which would involve making a cake and an overall special day for my husband. Secondly, we had our third prenatal appointment with our midwife and our ultrasound.
Almost immediately hunger pangs kicked in so I started preparing my breakfast while getting the ingredients for the cake (German Chocolate) organized and prepped. By six thirty I had eaten breakfast and had the three step cake in the oven baking. I was on my way out the door to pick up a few items for a special birthday breakfast for my husband (at this point he and our son were still sleeping) when I realized that the cake was in the oven. As I waited for the cake to finish baking, I starting to pick up the living and dining room, during which my husband woke up and came downstairs. I quickly explained that I needed to run to the store and after taking the cakes out of the oven and making my husband a cup of tea I was out the door.
