Pregnancy During December

Now that I am well into my thirty seventh week, I am truly enjoying and appreciating the cold weather! With my first pregnancy, it was the height of summer in West Texas when I was thirty seven weeks. It was just plain uncomfortable! There was only so much clothing one can remove to deal with the heat.

With this pregnancy the colder temperatures facilitate much better sleep and much less swelling. Feeling cold is a welcomed experience! It is really nice to be able to layer my clothing especially with my very large pregnant belly (most of my tops are almost too small to cover my entire baby bump). It has been well below freezing in the last week and I still hesitate to turn on the heat in our house (of course my poor husband and son are freezing so it usually goes on in the morning).

It is also nice to need to wear a coat for our many outdoor adventures! While I considered buying a maternity coat for the winter weather, I decided that I would rather not spend money on a coat that will only be worn for a few weeks. Instead, I have been wearing my non-pregnancy coats and jackets. While they do not cover my tummy, they do keep my body warm enough for our short outings. Scarves and gloves are another welcomed pieces of apparel that I did not have the chance to wear during my first pregnancy.

We have only had one instance of notable snowfall this winter season and it was very wet and not very cold. I was able to wear my rain boots to play with our son in the snow I have been searching for a pair of winter boots (that are also stylish). So far I have had no luck and I hesitate getting a pair of boots with a heel while I am pregnant. I am still searching for a nice pair of trendy winter boots, but at this point I do not think that I will find a pair that I like until after the baby is born (so I can get a pair with heels without worry).

Needless to say, I am really enjoying being in my third trimester and final weeks of pregnancy during the colder weather! I definitely recommend late pregnancy during the winter!
