Moving is never an easy or stress-free experience. My husband and I have moved several times in our five short years of marriage. The last time we moved I was in my third trimester. The move was a fairly simple in-town move to a larger residence. A couple of my husband’s colleagues helped us with the heavy items. While lifting heavy objects is very hard and strenuous. I find the actually packing to be the most stressful aspect of moving.
Once again I am pregnant, although only in my first trimester and once again we are planning our next move. This time across country, not just across town. Unlike our in-town moves, we have to pack everything we own in a big truck for our fifteen hour trek back to the Midwest. Nothing can be left to do later. The more we can get done now the less we’ll have to do on those few days preceding packing the big truck and our long drive.
Preparations for the move have been difficult especially with the unpredictability of nausea and fatigue that comes with the first trimester of pregnancy. This is only compounded by working full time and the stress of end of the school year preparations and obligations.
Thankfully, I was able to get through a couple closets and packed up several totes of books and other household items not in use before the morning sickness began. While I thought I could keep packing in the evenings and on the weekends preceding our move, my persistent nausea and ever increasing fatigue has swallowed up my motivation. However, my determination was not completely squelched and I somehow found the energy to devote this past Saturday to cleaning and packing. While there is still a significant amount of our house to pack, we are several more totes (full of stuff) closer to being packed and that’s a really good feeling!
