Preparedness: When Mom Is Sick

Personally I find that being prepared in case of an emergency is very important in my household. What kind of emergency? The day I woke up with a terrible stomach virus! Ugh! Not a good day. To make matters worse, I was unable to perform my daily morning routine and that was considered an emergency in my family. At the time, I didn’t care a thing about what needed to be done or how it would be accomplished. However, my husband… well, that was a different story. He was a bit lost.

Ever since, I have made it a point to be better prepared. Instead of being lazy the night before, I make sure now that everything is in order. It’s the little things that can really make the next morning a much easier task if someone else needs to take charge. I now make my son’s lunch the night before and place it into the refrigerator where we can grab it before heading out of the door. I also lay out his clothes before I hit the sack, which will cut down on the time it takes finding him something to wear. My son’s winter jackets are now placed in the hall closet, not in his, as this seems to be easier for my husband to grab – I suppose it’s easier on me as well.

I never thought about the time it took to gather homework and books together. The morning of my sickness, it took everything I had to gather these necessary items together and throw them into my son’s book bag. I really learned my lesson the morning I was so sick! Each night I now place everything in his book bag and all he has to do is grab it and walk out of the door the next morning. It makes life easier on all of us.

Being more prepared for a sick day will make life easier, not only for me, but others involved. Hopefully it will not happen again for a very long time, but when it does, I will be better prepared. Life will go a lot smoother, especially in the morning time. Not to mention, I am sure my husband will be forever grateful. I know I would be!
