Well summer is slowly coming to an end. For some people this is a difficult thing to accept. They want to hold onto summer as long as possible. For other people (myself included), they are looking forward to cooler days.
As we prepare for the upcoming fall season, we should also be preparing our fitness routine. After all, for many of us things drastically change when the temperatures begin to drop. While many of us are quite active during the summer months, the cooler months can cause some to lose motivation.
But planning for this ahead of time can help. If you know that the upcoming fall and winter season tends to lead to a lack of exercise and more sitting around, then make a plan now to prevent that.
The great thing about fall is that many of the things you did during the summer can still be done in the fall months. Tennis, walking, running, hiking…these and many other physical activities are just as enjoyable during the cooler months. In fact, I personally find physical activity much easier when it’s cooler outside but I’m a 60 degree kind of person.
Determine now that just because summer is coming to an end, it doesn’t mean your active lifestyle has to come to an end. In fact, you might have been the opposite this past summer. You may have spent most of your summer sitting on your deck or at the beach, relaxing in a hammock or other non-active enjoyments. Look at fall as a new beginning, a chance to implement a new fitness routine.
Staying active or becoming active in the fall can also help prepare you for the winter season. This is the time of year where many of us fall prey to inactivity and eating more than we should (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s). So if you start now, it will be easier to resist the urge to not exercise during the colder winter months or to sabotage your efforts by overeating.
How are you preparing to stay active during the fall months?
