We are down to the wire, our houses need to be clean for company. When I’m having company over I always stress about the house, I want it to look nice and I want people to be comfortable in my home. I love having a houseful of people for the holidays. Big dinners, Christmas parties, I love those things. There is nothing better than being surrounded by the people you love.
In order to have everyone here and feel good about it, my house needs to be clean. I have so much cooking and baking to do that I don’t want to spend my whole day cleaning so it needs to be quick. To make it as quick as possible I try to prioritize everything, there is no need to clean the laundry room when no one will see that. I also try to make sure I have all my cleaning supplies in one handy tote so it can move from room to room with me instead of running up and down the stairs to get something.
After the house is clean it’s important to make it accessible for your guests. You will need to make sure you have adequate seating and plenty of places for someone to put down a drink or a plate. Also make sure the coat closet has room enough for your guests coats and that there are plenty of hangers. Make sure the bathroom is stocked with toilet paper that is easy for your guests to replenish and that hand towels and soap are easily accessible.
Clear the kitchen counters, put empty bins containers that guest can stack dirty dishes in. Make sure you have storage items to send home with your guests, full of goodies and put together a spill kit, you don’t want to have to dig through your cleaning supplies if someone spills something, better to have it ready to go.
If you have pets make sure you accommodate them as well, if they get nervous with lots of people around, put them in your room, and make sure that no one can let out a pet that shouldn’t be let out. Once you do these few simple things then you can enjoy your party and your guests will feel at home.
