Preparing for Moving 1

One event that requires a lot of preparation is moving. The amount of work, which goes into moving, can be overwhelming, even if you have a moving company come and do most of the packing. There are many different tasks, which you will need to complete when you move. These steps you can begin working on as soon as you realize that you are moving. This will make the moving day go quicker.

1) The first thing you should do is to take the time to declutter your home. It is a great opportunity to get rid of all the junk, which has accumulated since your last move. You can start by taking a room or closet a day, and simply getting rid of things, which you do not want to take with you. You can sort the piles into trash, and donations. There is no point in moving stuff that you will never use.

2) Contact and book your moving company as soon as possible. This applies if you are using a moving company or doing it yourself. You can often save money if you have the ability and time to shop around. You can also move on the dates, which are best for you, if you plan ahead. You will save money if you do not move at the end/beginning of the month, since this is the busiest moving time.

3) Visit your new city or neighborhood. It is a good idea to get a feel for the area. You will want to scope out the shopping areas, and figure out your local schools. You will not be able to register for school until you actually move, but it is nice to know where your children will be going.

4) You may want to look into finding new doctors for you and your family. This is especially true if you have specialists that you see. Many of the best specialists have waiting lists, and you can get put on these while you are still in your old area. You can conduct a basic interview with your new doctors over the phone.

These are some basic steps, which help to make the entire moving process a little bit easier. It is best to begin preparing early so that you are not too overwhelmed as packing day arrives. What is your favorite thing about moving?
