With it now being officially autumn and winter on the horizon, you are going to be spending much more time inside. This is why you might want to prepare the environment of your home.
While you might have spent many a day out on the deck or an evening on the patio in front of a pit fire, now you will be indoors. So you want to prepare your home for the upcoming colder months.
This is a good time to think about rearranging some things in your home. Which room are you most likely to spend more time in?
For some people it’s the kitchen. You might have a large enough kitchen that you can easily spend a couple of hours in there, even if you aren’t cooking. If you have the space, you might want to put in an area where you can use your computer. Or if you are really blessed to have extra space in your kitchen, put in a small reading area.
Remember, we are going to be spending more time indoors so you want to create areas in your home that are inviting and relaxing. Now if the kitchen isn’t the place you will likely spend most of your time in, then it might be the living area or family room.
What are some things you can do to make it more inviting and prepare for indoor activities? You could set up a game area, where your family can spend time together playing board games. Or set up a table with some puzzles to work on.
One of the things I do every year at this time is set up my cross-stitching area. I don’t spend much time working on this throughout the summer but there are many winter nights that I do. While it gets put away for the summer, I make sure I have everything I need in a pretty, accessible basket…right next to my recliner.
I even purchased a special two-way lamp, which adjusts so I can bring one of the lamps closer to my chair. This helps me to see my thread better. Investing in some new things for your home might be what you need for the upcoming colder months.
In fact, you might even think of bringing in some color into your home to help take away the drab feeling those colder months can bring.
What are some other ways you can prepare the environment of your home for the colder months?
