If you are planning an in-town move the type of packing you complete will be much different from a long distance move. You will not need to pack as carefully or as compactly, since you can make multiple trips. An in-town move is relatively easy to complete.
1) You should still pack seldom-used items in advance. This will save you time and stress on the actual moving day. The day before you move you should pack nearly everything that you are moving, but you do not need to be as careful with most items. You may consider moving valuables in your car to insure their safety during the move.
2) If you are having friends help you move, be ready at the appointed time. It can be frustrating to show up to help someone move (load the truck) to find that they haven’t started packing, or that the truck is not there.
3) If you are having friends help you move be sure to have plenty of food and drink on hand. They are doing you a favor and pizza and drinks are an easy way to say thank you. It is important to make sure that your movers stay hydrated, especially if you are moving in hot weather. You should probably have a cooler full of soda or sport’s drinks on hand.
4) If you are moving in town you can spread your move out over a day or two if needed. You will most likely want to move all of the larger items and boxes in one day, but you can move your smaller items, and complete clean up in the next day or two.
5) Try to clean your new home before you move. I always have to scrub the new bathroom and wipe out the cabinets before I unpack. If you can do this the day before your scheduled move it will make the process easier.
Taking these easy steps will help to make an in-town move less stressful. You can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. The more you have planned ahead the smoother the entire process will be.
