If you are planning a long distance move you will want to be a lot more careful about the way you pack things. You will also want to consider the way that you pack the truck. The longer the move, the more careful you will want to be. Here are some factors that you may want to consider:
1) You will want to decide which type of rental truck to use. If you are moving more than a day’s drive you may want to consider using a trucking service. You will load your items into a portion of a trailer, and then nail up a wooden barrier to protect your items. You pay for the amount of square feet you use in addition to the mileage. This can be an affordable option. You can learn more about it here.
2) When you pack your valuables you will need to clearly label your packages as fragile if they hold glass or other breakable items. You will want to pack these items on the top of your stacks of boxes. You will also want to secure them with ropes.
3) Do not pack the truck too high. If you pack the boxes too high it is more likely that boxes will shift and fall during a move. We packed the items high once, and used the wood to partition off our section. We thought we were safe since the wood was there, and the wood didn’t move, but the boxes definitely did.
4) You will want to carry with your important papers. These include wills, birth certificates, social security cards, insurance information, car deeds, and so on. You may need them on the trip, and you do not want to run the risk of them being lost or stolen.
If you decide to use a moving truck as suggested in number one, you will have time to take a leisurely trip to wherever you are going. Enjoy the time as a family. Even if you are driving the truck yourself, don’t push your family too hard. Be sure to allow yourself some time to relax everyday.
