Where will you be spending spring break this year? Whereas I would love to jet off to Hawaii to escape Old Man Winter’s chokehold on the Midwest, funds are tight, so we’re planning to vacation closer to home.
Sniff. Sniff.
Spring is a time of new beginnings and new discoveries. What better time to hit the road with the family and your camera to snap as many photo ops are possible. If you have the time and the funds, consider traveling to the following idyllic spring break hot spots. You don’t have to be a pro shooter to know they would serve well as the backdrop to any family photo:
NEW YORK
There is no argument that New York offers some of the most spectacular views in the world. I personally love to stroll around Central Park and snap shots of my daughter exploring the famous natural oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. Another great place to take your camera is the Staten Island Ferry. It provides a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline, including the Statue of Liberty. Both serve as incredible backdrops to family photos or as solo entries in your scrapbook.
UTAH
The Snake River in Utah is an amazing place to take adventure shots. The river winds through Hell’s Canyon–the deepest gorge in North America–and offers breathtaking views of white water rapids and massive rock formations.
TEXAS
I have been fortunate enough to photograph the San Antonio River Walk several times and have subsequently learned some tricks for shooting in the intense heat. The River Walk parallels the winding San Antonio River and is dotted with bridges reminiscent of Venice. The place is also packed with people so you never have a shortage of subjects. One of the best shots I ever captured on the River Walk features a waiter from one of the dozens of outdoor Tex-Mex restaurants preparing guacamole tableside for a party of 10.
FRANCE
Saint-Paul de Vence in Provence, France is a quiet town that is filled with incredible photo opportunities. The streets are filled with locals going about their daily chores and merchants looking to sell their wares. The village is set in the picturesque French countryside, which lends itself to awe-inspiring panoramic pics.
