Prepping the Family Room

One of my tasks today is to pack up my books from the shelves in the family room. This is because we are going to do some quick updates in the family room in the next couple of weeks. We haven’t abandoned the kitchen by any means. But while we are still reviewing our options, we can take advantage of the time to get some work done elsewhere.

The motivation behind going ahead with the family room is the carpet that will be installed in a few weeks. To save money, we are going to pull out the old vinyl tile ourselves. And, we figured that we might as well paint the room while we are at it.

To make it really easy on ourselves, we picked a neutral tan color for the carpeting. For the walls, we will paint another neutral color, one that we really loved in our old home. Because we already picked out the paint, things will go quickly. We still aren’t sure about the trim color, but hopefully we can resolve that this weekend. We are thinking of going with a rich brick color to go with the fireplace, at the moment.

To get ready to paint, the easiest thing is going to be to remove everything in the room. While I can’t move the heavy furniture myself, I can box up the loose items. Fortunately, I recently went through a book de-cluttering session, so this helps. I further weeded some more books our yesterday. This time I was tougher on myself. I managed to get four more beloved books listed on Paperback Swap. By the end of the day, I hope to increase that number I also moved the rest of my books that I need to read to my bedroom cupboard.

After I box up all of the books, I’ll get started on the DVDs and VHS movies. Again, I recently did a de-clutter session on these, so the packing should be quick and limited to one box.

I hope to update you on my progress.
