Preschool Book: Hugs & Kisses, God

Book: Hugs & Kisses, God from Kids Around the World; A Lift The Flap Book

Author: Allia Zobel Nolan

Publisher: Zonderkidz

Age Recommendation: 3 and up

About the Author:

Allia Zobel Noian is a former senior editor of Reader’s Digest and author of over 130 children’s books and nine adult books. You may recognize her from the book, Thank You, God, which was another lift the flap book for children.

About the Book:

Read the rhymes, lift the flaps, and let little ones discover God as the source of every good thing as children from around the world recognize God’s everyday gifts—from yummy pancakes to daisies on the hill and rainbows in the sky. It’s time to cuddle up together and count our blessings.

My Thoughts:

First I want to complement Miki Sakamoto the illustrator of the book for the bright, colorful and engaging illustrations. A good children’s book for preschool ages rests equally with the words and the illustrations. Both aspects pull the child in and gives her a story she will want to hear every night. This book has both great rhythmic words and vibrant illustrations. I think I love lift the flap books as much as my preschooler. Lift the Flap books always grabs my attention. Along with the writing, illustrations and fun lift a flap feature it has a beautiful message. I try to teach my children to see God in everything and to thank God for even the smallest thing. This book captures that concept and shows a sweet love for the Lord and His creation. In addition, the book shows children of different backgrounds and different races. So any child reading this book will identify with the story and learn to thank God for all the blessings from pancakes to tiny daisies n the park.
