Preschool Game: Sonny the Seal

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
Game: Sonny the Seal

Ages: 4 and up

Number of players: 1 to 6

Special requirements: Requires 3 AA batteries

Game Description:

Sonny the seal is the star of the show.  He moves and sounds just like a real seal.  The player that tosses the most rings over sonny’s bobbing head wins the game.  Kids will love watching sonny celebrate by clapping his flippers and barking each time he ‘catches’ a ring. Requires 3 AA batteries (not included).

From Parents’ Choice:

Try to toss the rings around this motorized seal’s neck as he bobs up, down and side-to-side. Succeed, and he’ll bark and clap. First player to get three rings around Sonny’s neck wins. NOTE: Kids as old as 8 years enjoyed this game. It became a test class’s mascot. A Parents’ Choice Recommendation. (Laura Spannagel, Parents’ Choice, 1999)

Our Thoughts

All of my kids ages 4 to 14 enjoyed playing the game. Now, don’t get me wrong, only a child of 12 or 14 with little siblings will enjoy the game. I would not purchase it for a child over the age of six, perhaps, seven. However, it will be fun for all the kids and even the parents. It is basically a ring toss game and that concept appeals to all ages. Sonny the Seal is adorable! It is so much fun to see him move around and make noises when you manage to toss the ring around his neck. The game is just plain fun. A great addition to family game night if you have little ones. Since the game can be played solo or with a various amount of people, it can serve to keep little hands (or big hands) busy between turns, games, or when a game gets boring to a little one.

The only drawbacks are that the rings by itself tend to entertain kids which can cause them to break apart (they go right back together) or get lost. The other drawback is the flippers come off easily.
