I hate conjunctivitis or as it is more commonly called; pink eye. Mind you, I have never had pink eye. In fact, we only had it occur in my home four times and two of those times it was only my husband. One time it was my son and this time it is my daughter. Each time, it did not spread to other family members. We simply used doctor prescribed antibiotics to get rid of the infection. Pink eye can be viral or bacterial and since there is no way to determine which it is in a reasonable fashion, doctors will always prescribe an antibiotic. I do not blame them but I also see no need to give antibiotics unnecessarily. So, when my three year old came down with it, I decided to look to natural home remedies. I am not well versed in this area so it was a learning experience for me.
Home Remedies for Pink Eye
Chamomile Tea: Seep the tea for five minutes. Once it is warm place the bag on the eye for fifteen minutes. You can do repeat this treatment two to three times a day.
Colloidal Silver: A natural antibiotic you can find in your local health food store. It can treat many things and works wonders on pink eye. Take orally as directed and mix equal parts in water and place in the eye up to three times a day.
Breast milk: Wash the eye out with breast milk! In fact, when I inquired this was the number one response right behind Colloidal Silver.
Milk and Honey: Mix equal parts of warm milk and honey and use it as an eye wash or in a dropper. You can also soak the milk and honey mixture on a washcloth or cotton ball and use as a compress.
