Little girls love to play dress up. I have two little girls who love nothing more then dressing up in tea hats, boas, gloves, and all the tea party duds. It never has to be fancy with little ones. Simple foods and place settings work just fine. The important thing is to have fun.
Tea Party Food
You will notice I did not include cucumber sandwiches. While, my girls love cucumbers they dislike cucumber sandwiches. After hosting a few little girl tea parties it appeared none of the girls cared for them. But make food to suit your own taste!
Mini Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches: Make a traditional peanut butter and jelly sandwich then use a mini cookie cutter to make them fun sized! Try some fun shapes also.
Meat and Cheese Rolls: Spread cream cheese on a flour tortilla. Then apply spinach or lettuce. The next layer will be a lunch meat of your choice and finally the cheese. Roll up and apply a bit more cream cheese to secure it. Then using a knife, slice it, width wise, into several pieces to create the rolls.
Mini Desserts: Buy or make mini cookies, brownies and/or cupcakes. I once made cupcakes and placed them in the teacups for effect. The children enjoyed it.
Tea Party Beverages
I have found that many young children are not fond of hot drinks. Some want to try the grown up method so make sure to provide plenty of milk, honey, lemons and sugar if you decide on hot beverages. Here are some other fun options for cold beverages a child may appreciate more. Of course you can place the drinks in the tea cups for effect.
Raspberry Lemonade
Lemonade
Kool-Aid
Raspberry Tea
Fruit Punch
Use this time to create a sense of fun and openness with your daughters. These special times will encourage a long tradition of mother/daughter experiences.
