Preserving Mother’s Day Gifts

mother daughter It is only a few days before Mother’s Day. Are you ready? One of the gifts that we usually give and get on Mother’s Day is flowers. Wouldn’t it be nice to preserve the gift to last longer than the few days before it wilts? How about preserving cards and other memories of the day?

Here are some ideas.

For cards and home made drawings, why not frame them and hang them on the wall. You can create a collage or pick one or two special paper memories and hang them in individual frames. One cute area for this is an informal half bath. Guests will smile at the images as they are washing up.

You can also hang up your flower bouquets on your wall, as well. How? Just take some nice photos of them when they are at their peak. It will be fun to group the various bouquets through the years.

Another idea for either cards, drawings or photos is to place them on the top of a desk or dresser and cover the desk or dresser top with a piece of glass. Your memories will last for a long time, and you will be reminded every day of your good fortune and the thoughts of your loved ones. The bright colors are sure to add a nice decorative touch to your home, as well.

You can also preserve some flowers by drying them. Hang the flowers upside down and keep each bloom from touching another, so make sure that they dry well. Hanging them upside down will preserve the shape of the flower, but make sure that the flowers are not too far gone when you dry them. An attic or a closet that is nice and dry is the idea place to dry flowers. You can also use the microwave to dry your flowers, but be careful! This is a special technique that needs silica gel to dry them, and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

Pressing flowers is another option to try.

How will you celebrate Mother’s day?
